Well, we know damn well an ATF under Chipman’s leadership will be breaching all sorts of data and privacy laws to go after his opponents (legal gun owners). From the CBS affiliate in Tampa Bay, FL in 2018:
WASHINGTON (WUSA9) — WASHINGTON - When police find a gun on TV they run the serial number through a computer and it tells them who owns it in seconds. The reality is different, slower and more confusing than that.
That’s because decades-old laws limit the technology federal agents can use to trace guns.
“The privacy rights of the gun owner have trumped my right not to get shot in the head,” said David Chipman, senior policy advisor for the gun control group Giffords.
According to Chipman during his judiciary committee hearing for his appointed position of Director of the ATF last week when asked what guns he owned, he stated “that’s a pretty private question”. What a hypocrite:
So there you have it. Chipman thinks gun owners who are innocent don’t deserve privacy because of his emotional reasoning that gun grabbers use (your rights to own a gun don’t trump my right not to get shot). It’s a faux argument anyways, as we all know legal gun owners aren’t the problem, as the majority of ALL crimes committed with firearms are in large urban areas that are run by David’s political allies. But of course, David doesn’t want people knowing what HE has.
This is why David doesn‘t care about the privacy of gun owners: he and his gun control allies have an agenda (they want to know who has what, which is backdoor registration).
The amendments prohibit the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) from releasing firearm trace data. They require the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to destroy all approved gun purchaser records within 24 hours. The Tiahrt Amendments also prohibit the ATF from requiring gun dealers to submit inventories to law enforcement. Repealing these amendments would help solve gun crimes.
