Illinois lockdown due to COVID-19: FFL’s deemed “essential” and are exempt

Updated: May 20, 2020

Today, 3/20/20, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker issued an Executive Order which, for all intensive purposes, shuts down all “non-essential” functions and businesses. I can’t believe it, but there it is. FFL’s are exempt:

Now, if this ONLY applies to people who use firearms for their job (business & operations), then this goes to show that us civilians are less important than others (possible lawsuit waiting to happen?). I guess we’ll see in the coming days, but I’ll remain cautiously optimistic that this means people can still choose to protect themselves. If JB’s administration is truly allowing citizens to still legally get firearms for protection, good on them (never thought i‘d say that). If they’re not, they’ll have to clarify soon enough.......

Update 3/21/20: FFL’s are OPEN to the public. Here’s an example out of Marengo, Illinois. If you’re a valid FOID card holder in Illinois and have yet to buy your first firearm, now would be a good time to take the plunge. Oh, and the mayor of Champaign seems to have been overruled by this EO should she try and shut down the sale/transfer of guns and ammo at FFL’s.
