Shannon Watts, the founder of Moms Demand Action (which merged with Mayors Against Illegal Guns to form Everytown For Gun Safety in 2013) is no longer officially the head of MDA. Now, we have Angela Ferrell-Zabala:
She also has some great experience. Prior to Everytown:
Before joining the Everytown family, Angela was the National Director of Strategic Partnerships for Planned Parenthood Federation of America and the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, where she ensured strategic alignment across the progressive movement with particular focus on issue areas that are not historically or wholly centered in Planned Parenthood’s strategies.
She checks a lot of boxes for left-wing groups that want to virtue signal. She’s a minority and she’s gay. Nothing wrong with that at all, but considering Everytown’s multiple instances of internal racism and discrimination regarding their employees (here, here and here are examples), it leaves one to wonder if they’re doing this to help their image (kind of like how they had (may have) to rebrand in 2013 to get rid of negative name association with Mayors Against Illegal Guns:
They call themselves Mayors Against Illegal Guns. But apparently not all of them are against all illegal activity.
MAIG was co-founded in 2006 by Michael Bloomberg and his counterpart in Boston, Thomas Menino.
But come January, the two men will be out of office. When they depart, attention will likely focus on some of their less well-known members — and that could be a problem.
The latest of the legally challenged is Mayor Gordon Jenkins of Monticello, NY. Last week, he was arrested for driving under the influence and for literally punching a police department clock, which forced cops to handcuff him to a chair.
He’s not alone. Over in Spring Valley, Mayor Noramie Jasmin was arrested for accepting bribes from an FBI informant in April. In Marcus Hook, Pa., Mayor James Schiliro was arrested for reckless endangerment after firing a handgun inside his home during a drunken argument.
Down in Gainesville, Fla., Mayor Craig Lowe was charged with a DUI after being found asleep at the scene of a car accident. Meanwhile, other MAIG members from Hartford to Detroit have found themselves facing prosecutors over charges that include felony corruption, assault and attempted sex crimes with a child.
Back to Angela. When she got her new role (handed to her?), she stated this (in the link in beginning of this article):
“For ten years, Moms Demand Action has been changing the calculus on gun safety,” said Angela Ferrell-Zabala, incoming Executive Director of Moms Demand Action. “As Executive Director, I’m excited to help usher in the next decade, leading our grassroots volunteers as we stand shoulder to shoulder with survivors, students, mayors, faith leaders, and lawmakers in the fight for a safer world than what the gun lobby has tried to create for us.”
The President of Everytown said this:
“During her time spearheading Everytown’s movement building work, Angela has proven that she’s the perfect person to lead Moms Demand Action into its second decade,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “Our grassroots army of Moms Demand Action volunteers is now bigger, stronger, and tougher than anything the gun lobby can muster, and we’re still picking up steam.”
Now, many people get involved in activism because no matter what, even if they aren’t paid, which true activists don’t make a living being an activist alone, they truly believe their cause is just. Some, however, see “activism” and guiding people in the direction they want as a way to have a full time job. Sometimes it pays well. In Angela’s case, it pays VERY WELL. Looking at the Everytown Suppory Fund tax forms, which bankrolls Moms Demand Action, we see how much Angela was getting. Just shy of $360k a year!
I don’t know about you, but that’s one hell of a salary for someone to get to lead recruitment for an organization that uses misinformation and lies in order to advance the erosion of the 2nd amendment. And you thought she might do this just because she’s a kind woman devoted to “preventing gun violence”? Ha! In a similar fashion, David Hogg, the Parkland “survivor” (he was never in any danger) has been doing well for a young lad at 22 years old. In fact, when he was 20 in 2022, he was making just shy of $57k a year being the Secretary of the March For Our Lives Action Fund. This is in addition to multiple other sources of income.
Perhaps he got greedy and moved on, because he started his own PAC, Leaders We Deserve. Besides blowing money and giving crumbs to actual candidates, David pays himself over $8k a month from the time the PAC started in 2023 to now in 2024. In other words, he’s making over $100k a year continuing to grift off of the horrible tragedy in 2018.
Gun control activism sure is a great way to make a living. Who cares if you’re working to destroy a constitutional right, it pays well!………
