PICA, the Illinois Gun Ban, Formally Known as the Protect Illinois Communities Act, bans the sale and possession (unless you registered prior to 1/1/24) of magazine fed semi-auto rifles with certain cosmetic and accessory features, and flat out bans the AR-15. The 7th circuit upheld the ban when a preliminary injunction was issued against it last year, stating that “military arms are not protected by the 2nd amendment”. Stupid, and incorrect, I know.
This week, the full trail started and the defense (communists of the state of IL) and the plaintiffs cross examined their experts. Due to the 7th’s stupid ruling, the plantiffs have to basically fight and explain the difference between a full-auto M4 and an off the shelf civilian legal AR-15. The state brought their witness to testify, Everytown For Gun Safety board member Lt. Col. Jason Dempsey, who is on the Everytown Veterans Advisory Council. The plantiffs during cross examination got a checkmate against him and the state of illinois lol. Greg Bishop from the Center Square (he actually helped blow up our original and explosive reporting on the IL Supreme Court scandal regarding the gun ban in the state high court) has been reporting almost play by play of the trial this week, and Dempsey let this slip:
WHOOPS!!!!!!! Thank you, Mr. Dempsey, for really screwing over the defense (state of IL) and Everytown For Gun Safety (Bevis is the Naperville gun ban case that was consolidated into the PICA cases as well). This is just beautiful. With today wrapping up the arguments, Judge McGylnn will issues his ruling within a month or so (he is a gun guy and knows about firearms and such and issued the original short lived injunction). PICA ‘a days are likely numbered….

Funny. US v. Miller (1938) says precisely the opposite. Somebody needs to tell the court system that they can't have it both ways.
