Frivolous Lawfare Against Lake County, IL FFL Part 3: FOIA Stonewalling?

Over the past week we have brought attention to an active court case involving the Illinois FFL that legally transferred the AR-15 used in the 2022 Highland Park, IL mass shooting. The initial article about it (and Everytown’s lawyers reaching heavily to make a case) can be found here:

Additionally, it has been uncovered that when the Highland Park Mayor, Nancy Rotering, testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee in 2022, she admitted that the transfer of the firearm was legal and lawful. That article here:

Just for the heck of it, a FOIA request was done to Highland Park to see if the city employees and elected officials have talked about that FFL (Red Dot Arms of Lake Villa) in any emails. The request was simple and only covered the past year, nothing prior to July 2025:

The response from the city was……odd. Effectively, they denied the request and referenced a 2022 court order.

Regarding section D 2nd box checked, this is what that is in reference to:

July 2022 order:

December 2022 order:

So it seems that the City of Highland Park, Illinois is applying a previous court order involving Robert Crimo III (shooter) and his Dad, Robert Jr, to a FOIA request to see if village employees and elected officials have talked about Red Dot Arms over the past year, and the fact that the request was denied and EVERY box was checked as a reason to withhold any records raises some eyebrows. What’s really being discussed and hidden? Is the city (not a named party) currently helping the plantiffs (Keely Roberts and the gun control groups) in the ongoing lawsuit against Red Dot Arms, Bud’s Gun Shop and Smith & Wesson and doesn’t want to be caught doing so? Who knows, but this is just……odd.

Here’s what Grok AI had to say about the denial:
