Two women charged with stealing a Make America Great Again hat from a boy seated outside the Democratic National Convention in Wilmington have had their charges upgraded to hate crimes, the Delaware Department of Justice announced Tuesday.
According to DOJ officials, Camryn Amy and Olivia Winslow, both 21, were seen on video taking a MAGA hat off the ground in the 600 block of Justison Street outside Iron Hill Brewery, near the Chase Center on the Riverfront where the DNC was being virtually hosted on August 20, 2020.
“Violence in any form is unacceptable, but harming another person — let alone a child — because of the expression of their views betrays the principles on which our country was founded," said Attorney General Kathy Jennings. "Free speech, free assembly, and free expression are sacred, no matter whether we agree with the opinions expressed, and especially when we don’t. That is as true today as it was when the Bill of Rights was ratified. Our Division of Civil Rights and Public Trust will continue to defend everyone's fundamental rights.”
What dems and gun control groups are pushing (the Disarm Hate Act):
The bill expands the categories of persons who are prohibited from receiving or possessing a firearm.
Specifically, it prohibits firearm sale or transfer to and receipt, possession, shipment, or transport by a person (1) who has been convicted of a misdemeanor hate crime, or (2) who has received an enhanced hate crime misdemeanor sentence.
Being that their both 21 and if the Democrats get this bill passed, I’m curious how they both feel that they’ll be disarmed for life if the dems and gun control groups get their way (keep in mind, AG Kathy Jennings is a Democrat and stand with Moms Demand Action). Personally, a crime like robbery, theft, assault are crimes alone, and “hate crimes” can be applied to anything to enhance charges. Slippery slope. I don’t make or advocate for these types of laws, so.......
Keep your TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome) in check, it’s now on record as a hate crime to attack people just because they support Trump (you get what you ask for, and it can be used against you as well, dems). Laws go both ways (at least they should) you know....
