VA Gov Endorsement? No. Optics Game? Absolutely. How the NAACP Played Favorites Without Saying the Quiet Part Out Loud

The NAACP’s “Non-Endorsement” of Spanberger?

Wordplay at Its Finest.

They didn’t endorse her... just gave her the mic, the spotlight, and the stage. Meanwhile, the Black Republican woman got ghosted.

Let’s not pretend this is subtle. The NAACP claims it didn’t endorse Abigail Spanberger in Virginia’s 2025 gubernatorial race. Technically, that’s true. No formal endorsement. No press release. No checkbox marked “we support her.” But if you were at their 90th Annual Convention, you saw the optics: Spanberger front and center, smiling for the cameras.

Winsome Earle-Sears? Not invited. Not mentioned. Not even a polite “she declined.”

Harsh reality, but this show keeps getting better and better and it's not even been a week since the election!

Anyway... This wasn’t an endorsement... it was vindication theater, mostly likely staged in response to the NAACP’s lawsuit against Glenn Youngkin. Sears, Youngkin’s ideological successor, was persona non grata. Spanberger, the centrist Democrat who didn’t challenge the NAACP’s narrative but didn’t contradict it either, got the prime slot. The message was clear: “We won’t say we endorse her, but we’ll make sure you know who we’re rooting for.”

And here’s where the wordplay gets rich. Back in May 2021, when Winsome Sears made history as the first Black woman nominated to a major party ticket for lieutenant governor, the Virginia NAACP issued a statement recognizing the moment. They said:

“We recognize today’s historic selection of Winsome Sears. The Virginia NAACP does not support a political party. However, we recognize the overwhelming significance of this moment.”

So yes, they recognized Sears without endorsing her. Fast forward to 2025, and they didn’t even bother with recognition. No statement. No invitation. No acknowledgment of THE BLACK WOMAN or her historic candidacy for governor.

Apparently, recognition is reserved for moments that don’t conflict with their political calculus.

This is the NAACP’s favorite rhetorical trick: endorsement by omission, recognition by convenience, and silence as strategy. It’s not about race, it’s about ideological alignment. And if you’re a Black woman who doesn’t toe the progressive line? Don’t expect a seat at the table.

Spanberger’s win wasn’t just political. It was symbolic. And the NAACP helped paint that symbol, brushstroke by brushstroke, without ever signing the canvas.

Funnily enough, JUST LIKE SHE DID back when Moms Demand Action's Head Commie Mommie, Shannon Watts tried to use a Mom-At-Arms t-shirt idea to slander (then) Candidate, Nick Freitas and his wife with an outright LIE while FUNDRAISING FOR SPANBERGER, Abigail stayed silent on this rumor, too.

She didn't have answers.

She didn't take up for the NAACP when it counted.

She got what she wanted and now we're all in for it.

Once again, Black Virginians, you've allowed yourselves to remain chained to the Elite. Y'all got played! Some of us tried to warn ya.
